Most people know at least one person who has Autism. I, on the other hand, know several. April was Autism Awareness Month but why only one month long when it could be something we think about all year long in order to support those we know with Autism. So let’s to talk about Autism and find out what resources are offered around Northeast Florida for families living with Autism. I’m a long time sponsor of the local fishing tournament, The Flounder Pounder for Autism, benefiting the Jacksonville School For Autism (JSA)* because Autism effects so many, I hope you find the included information interesting.

Let’s start by asking the question “What is Autism?” According to the American Psychiatric Association, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental condition that involves persistent challenges in social interaction, speech, nonverbal communication, and restricted/repetitive behaviors. The effects of ASD and the severity of symptoms are different in each person.

In Jacksonville, as a community, we are lucky to have ample resources available to assist families with Autism; schools, centers, therapists, doctors, and more. Here are just a few:
